When “ME” is replaced with “WE” what do we get?
We get “US”
And this is the main idea of the #TheUsProject.
Today’s article is not any typical article found on Sifa’s Corner, it’s not a review, or tutorial, But it’s related to beauty in general.
We are going to talk about Selfies.
To define the term,
A selfie is a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media.
Nowadays, we don’t have to describe the word, we can see it everywhere. Open your Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat- and you will know what I mean.
If anyone asks me how did we take pictures before selfie?
We took pictures, of ourselves with the help of someone or a tripod. It’s not a new concept. But due to social media the prevalence of selfies has become kind of “epidemic”.
In today’s world everything is image based. If I go on writing 1 paragraph without any pictures to go with it, you are probably gonna skip my blog. People need to watch & dig deep into other people’s lives and simultaneously judge & compare. It has become a norm.
More than 1 million selfies are posted everyday, among these 35% selfies are from 18-24 years old.
Of course it’s letting us express ourselves and making us more confident. Bloggers and Vloggers have to keep their Instagram, Snapchat & Facebook pages updated with one (or 100) latest selfies to keep the readers interested. Because it’s all about that perfect image.
The popularity and charm of selfies is not free from its darker sides.
It’s creating “decreased intimacy and more shallow relationship”, according to Psychology Today.
The number of plastic surgery has risen with the term “Selfie Surgery” and most of the patients are under 30.
Not to mention, we sometimes compare our whole lives with a perfect shot of a friend or someone we know and become depressed, jealous and feel inadequate.
But is it wise?
What if you can use the power of Selfie to make something even bigger?
What if you can upgrade the idea of “selfie” to something better?
And what if you join forces with your friends and help each other?
To celebrate the collective strength of young women, SOFFE is creating ways to unite all the young women to support their shared goals….and thus the #TheUsProject movement is born.
Rather than competing with each other, this project is aiming to encourage young women to focus on each other for strength, motivation and encouragement.
