REVIEW: Lime Crime Velvetines

Hello readers!

I know I am quite late to post this. This article was supposed to be uploaded last week. I am having a very busy & hectic time for a couple of weeks…so please bear with me….and also, thanks for constantly supporting Sifa’s Corner.

Back to today’s article. Upon many requests from my readers, I am going to review 9 of Lime Crime Velvetines from my collection. Lime Crime came up with 2 more shades, Riot and Rave- which I don’t have. Why? I will tell you that in a while.

LIME CRIME- THE COMPANY, THEIR PRODUCTS & THE CONTROVERSY:

I don’t want to solely point out only the positive or only the negative sides of any entity and I also do not want to make my blog a negative space. So without exaggerating or defaming anyone I will tell the Lime Crime story in short.

Lime Crime website got hacked. Hundreds (or more) customers’ credit card information got stolen. Many people lost their money. People started to get furious. They verbally attacked Lime Crime. Lime Crime apologized at first, then they cracked. They also started verbally attacking those people. Things got ugly….real fast!

This is the shortest version of Lime Crime controversy. If you wanna know more, try Google.

Unfortunately I chose a very bad time to review Lime Crime products. Because many beauty bloggers and customers are shunning Lime Crime and their products. Many people are still bad-mouthing the company and its owner.

I am not trying to convince someone otherwise, what you wanna do and how you wanna react is completely your choice. I chose to review their products, because my readers asked me to, which tells me there are still some people out there who wants to buy Lime Crime stuffs.

WHAT IS A VELVETINE:

Velvetine is a lip color, a long lasting liquid lipstick. This is one of the first long lasting liquid lipsticks I have tried and used constantly without getting dried, chapped lips.

COLOR COMPARISONS & DUPES:

I searched for a long time within my collection and on the stores for similar Velvetine colors. These are some of the shades I could come up with. If you want to compare Velvetines with Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lip colors, then look here and here.

NEUTRALS:

I didn’t find exact dupe for Cashmere. Anastasia Beverly Hills Pure Hollywood is lighter, OCC Authentic is Coral nude, Kat Von D Lolita is Warmer and darker than Cashmere.

Haven’t find any dupe for Salem yet, let me know if you got one.

PINKS AND PURPLES:

Lime Crime Pink Velvet and Kat Von D Berlin is almost the same. This is the closest match I have found.

No complete match for Utopia and Pansy, but Kat Von D Bauhau5 is in between these 2 shades.

Lime Crime vs Anastasia Beverly Hills pink color comparisons can be found here.

CORALS:

Too Faced Melted Coral and OCC Grandma (similar colors) are the closest match to Lime Crime Suedeberry. Suedeberry is  a slight deeper than these 2.

OCC Radiate is close to Suedeberry too but a little bit darker.

Kat Von D Underage Red and Lime Crime Red Velvet is similar colors- but with different undertones. KVD Underage Red leans to warm tone and Lime Crime Red Velvet leans to cool tone.

I have found that the colors slightly different under different lights. Here are the corals and reds in different lighting.

PROS:

1. Long lasting. Stays on through food and drink for about 10+ hours.

2. The colors are rich and the true to the bottle, which means you will get the same color (as you see on the bottle) on your lips, whichever your lip color is.

3. I found it less drying than some of the other liquid lipsticks.

CONS:

1. Lime Crime controversy.

IN A NUTSHELL:

Any website can get hacked. But how the owner of that company deals with the after-hacking period is important.

Product-wise Lime Crime velvetine is one of the best liquid lipsticks in market.

I really hope my effort was successful and you will find closer or similar colors to Lime Crime if you want to skip their products. If you have any other dupes, let me know below!

  1. Hello,
Great work! Have you ordered directly from the Lime Crime’s website? Thanks

  2. I think it’s so great the effort you put forth to help everyone out and not only show all of the different Lime Crime shades on your lips and arm, but also compared tons of other brands as well. Even going so far as to show some in different lighting. Thanks so much for all of the help! It was very informative!! <3

  4. Thank u soooo much for the post.. I ordered Utopia.. And was thinking whether the color will suit me or not… But after reading & seeing ur blog.. Now I m happy that I ordered Utopia.. Thank u soo much <3 😀

  5. Great post as always. I couldn’t help but wonder, why is your ear looking so red? Is everything alright?

    • Hey Sanjida! Thanks for your concern. The thing is, when my chronic pain from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome flares up; my ears, cheeks and face turn red. Can’t help it! 🙁
Looks odd I know, but I have to live with it everyday.

o wow.. how nicely you have described everything. 😮 one of the best posts 😀 thank you.

  7. It’s really a shame what happened. They have such great product, probably could use just a little more work in the customer service department. And like you said, the whole fraud thing can happen to any company, it’s just all about how you go about it. I usually immediately call my bank if I ever see anything suspicious rather than depending on companies either way. Cashmere is my favorite and haven’t found anything as a replacement. So I guess they still have me as a customer for now. Great post! 🙂

    • I can understand Kayla. My favorite is Red Velvet and I am almost hitting the bottle. If I order again, I will probably use Dolls Kill website.
Thanks for your feedback…have a great day! 🙂

  8. This post is so helpful, apu! Thank you..
