DIY Treatments To Enhance Your Eyelashes

Eyelashes not only help in protecting your eyes, they are great for enhancing and flattering your eye’s appearance. Though your heredity is the deciding factor for the length of your eyelashes, it is possible to protect and condition your lashes using these home remedies. 






Words of caution:


Before you actually use any home remedy on your lashes, apply a bit to the outside of your wrist and leave it on for a day. This is to ensure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients. Moreover, while applying the home remedy to your lashes, make sure you don’t get anything into your eyes. 


1. Petroleum jelly 


It is cheap but has emollient and protective effects that improve the length of your eyelashes. First use a cotton ball to remove any eyeliner, eye shadow or mascara and then apply petroleum jelly to your eyelashes using a new or thoroughly cleaned mascara wand. Sleep with the petroleum jelly on and wash it off before you start your day. repeat thrice a week for best results. 





2. Green tea


Apply cool and unsweetened green tea to your eyelashes using a cotton ball to reap green tea beneficial properties. Green tea is rich in flavonoids and has potent antioxidant and health-supportive effects. Like any eyelash growth home remedy, make sure the liquid doesn’t get into your eyes and if it does, rinse well with cool water. 



3. Olive oil


Use a clean mascara to apply olive oil at bedtime to protect, condition and lengthen eyelashes. Leave it overnight and remove in the morning using a gentle eye makeup remover as olive oil attracts dirt and dust to your lashes. 




You can also enhance the healthy properties of olive oil by soaking a lemon peel in a jar of olive oil for a few days. Then carefully apply the mixture to your lashes for longer and healthier eyelashes. being a mild, natural antiseptic and antimicrobial agent, lemon olive oil helps promote healthier eyelashes. 


4. Taking care of lashes


Use a professional eyelash brush to groom your eyelashes twice a day to help stimulate growth and promote healthy eyelashes. this helps distribute natural oils on the eyelashes just as brushing your hair does. 

Always remove eye makeup before going to bed as it helps avoid stress on your lashes and eye region. It is also not advisable to wear mascara for prolonged periods. 



5. Diet 


Eating the right diet ensures your body receives the right nutrients and vitamins to promote eyelash growth. This occurs because your eyelashes are made of a type of protein called keratin that benefits from a high protein diet of foods like chicken, meat, fish, soy and tofu. 

Vitamin A is also important for lash growth and is found in fish oil, eggs and red, orange and yellow fruits. Citrus fruits, tomatoes and potatoes are rich in vitamin C which is a potent antioxidant that your eyelashes require. Milk and dark green leafy vegetables are great sources of calcium, which is important for your eyelashes. 



6. Massaging eyelids


Make it a habit to gently massage your eyelids as it helps increase blood flow and stimulates the growth of lashes. So after washing your hands well, use your finger pads to massage your lids and lash line.
